I have been teaching college since 2004 and in that time, I mostly taught first year college students who were woefully unprepared for college. Most could not comprehend even high school level reading and some could not write complete sentences. Many were so used to being told what to do that they could not think for themselves. I don't blame the teachers and educators. I blame the bureaucracy for emphasizing testing over learning.
