I believe this is a major issue in higher education. I’ve been an adjunct for most of my teaching career, but I was fortunate to get full time positions a couple of times.

You are definitely right about the difference in the way colleges and universities view adjuncts compared to full time professors.

What happened to you was wrong. I hope that changes will be made in the system, but they won’t come about without pressure.
